Keating's Store and Post Office, Copake Falls, N.Y. 101K
Scen of a roadside store and gas stop with two early autos parked in front. "Keating's New York Store", as identified by the sign on the building, has a deep front porch with cobblestone posts, situated along a dirt highway, with an early "Socony" gasoline pump in front. A 1920's car is pulled up to the gas pump; nearby is a Quaker State Motor Oil signboard. As suggested by the title, the building also housed the Copake Falls Post Office. This is part of a series of images made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street.
