The centerpiece of the Colby campus, Miller Library was built over a period of several years and completed in 1948. Adhering to the established American collegiate preference for Neo-Colonial design in the mid-20th century, the architect Jens Fredrick Larsen modeled the building after Baker Library at Dartmouth College, which is a version of the historic Independence Hall in Philadelphia. This image makes it clear that the building and its ells form a perfectly symmetrical plan.
