M.C.R.R.Station, E. Newport, Me. 2

A view of the Maine Central Railroad's small passenger rail station and freight house at East Newport, Maine, probably built ca. 1890, on a rail line. Two men stand in the foreground, presumably for the photographer. The subject of the photo, the passenger station, is a small but charming Victorian structure, with a gable roof and large window located so that people waiting inside the station could see the approaching train. The window is a tripartite unit with a curved central light, which adds a graceful flourish to the building. Divided wall surfaces and decoratively designed wooden brackets add to the structure's picturesque aspect. The building has a chimney, suggesting a wood stove inside. The E. Newport station stood along the Maine Central line west of Bangor. The station in the image probably served vacationers traveling to and from nearby Sebasticook Lake.
