Fogelin's Store and P.O., Stockholm, ME. 1427
Fogelin's Store and Post Office, Stockholm, ME. The storefront has a large sign for Armour's BIG CROP Fertilizer on the side. Two automobiles are seen in the front, their vintage suggesting that the photograph was taken in the 1930s along with a house. A water tower can be seen in the distance to the right. At 280 Main Street the first “business” in town can be seen. It was built by John and Lewis Anderson in 1901 as a hardware store. In 1904 John went across the river and started the Anderson store. In 1927, Wilbur Baxter bought the store and it continued as a hardware store. George Fogelin bought it in 1938 and also continued it as a hardware store. His niece inherited the building and in 1979 it became the property of the Stockholm Historical Society and Museum. The museum has 6,000 square feet (including the barn) of artifacts that have been given to the museum.
