Turner Centre Dairying Assn. Unity, Maine 22A Large ornate building with lower building beyond. Flour Grain Feed sign on next building. is the old creamery on Depot Street across the street but near the railroad. It was the Crystal Spring Creamery organized by a group of businessmen in 1893. Its purpose was , “To manufacture butter, cheese and to buy and sell and deal in milk, cream. And butter, cheese, eggs and all products of the farm and dairy including all kinds of county produce: to build and erect and complete and equip and operate in the county of Waldo factories for the manufacture of butter, cheese and other dairy products…” (from Vickery) When it was built it cost $3000 and employed three men. It lost money and was sold to H. P. Hood in 1904. (Vickery) Now it is a facility for medical marijuana. (not sure if you want to include that)
