New Bridge, Brooks, Me. 101

New Bridge, Brooks, Me. Shell gas sign and pumps. New bridge and Crockett's Store - What a beautiful view of the new concrete bridge over Marsh River in Brooks village, built in 1928 - 1929 at an actual cost of $19,830.72. Also prominent in this picture are Crockett's store and dwelling, A.R. Pilley's Drug Store, and the garage of Ed Godding, later J. David Stubbs. How many of you remember shopping at Crockett's Store, which looks about the same today as it did at the time of this photo? On October 26, 1922, a Brooks news item stated: "Pearl Crockett has purchased the Henry Cunningham shop and will remodel it for a store." Then, on August 23, 1923, came the good news: "Mr. Pearl Crockett expects to move into his new clothing store on South Main Street in about a week. This is one of the best stores in town with a floor space 26 x 60 feet and a tenement upstairs." Certainly it was a great place to shop during the 1930's - 1950's with the delightful Priscilla Murray in charge.
