Color transparency of City Park on Northport Avenue (Route 1) in Belfast, ME c. 1960. Looking out toward Penobscot Bay,it shows the park's salt water swimming pool and a picnic pavilion as well as people enjoying the facilities. The shoreline between Belfast and Searsport are visible beyond. The 17.5-acre park, designed with an arboretum, was a project of the Belfast Village Improvement Society, a local women's organization. It opened in 1904. For a time it offered campsites for travelers as well as recreational facilities for local residents and visitors.
