People debarking on ramp. View of One of the Passenger Boat Landings, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 8287. post 1932 The passenger boat, NELLIE G II, is at her wharf on Boothbay Harbor's west side. Her predecessor, NELLIE G, was built in Arrowsic in 1895 for Captain Amasa Williams, who brought her to town in 1902. He and his engineer, Charles Holbrook, ran the boat to the Squirrel Island summer colony founded by families from Lewiston in 1870. In 1928 Amasa's son Walter took over; Charles continued as partner and engineer. Wanting a faster boat, Walter and Charles in 1932 hired the Goudy & Stevens shipyard to build the NELLIE G II. That 44-foot gas-powered passenger boat continued on the Squirrel Island run under Williams until 1946 when Harold Dodge and Ross Dickson took her over. Since her last run in 1969, she's been in the safe hands of George McEvoy of Boothbay Harbor. The larger buildings seen across the harbor on the east side are, left to right, Irving Reed's shipyard, the freezer (cold storage), and the Catholic church. Barbara Rumsey
