James Pierce Five Masted Schooner The James Pierce was built in 1901 at the Washburn Brothers Shipyard in Thomaston, Maine 5 masted Schooner 1664 tons 236' length 43' beam 20.3' depth Official No. 77510 Signal Letters KRLB On November 19, 1912 the James Pierce on a voyage from Philadelphia to Jobos, Puerto Rico with a cargo of coal was abandoned 600 miles off the Bahamas after collision with the Norwegian Steamer FRAM. The crew of 13 was saved by the FRAM. She was set on fire by her crew as she was a hazard to navigation.
