Deep Vail Hotel Limerick Me. 58.

"Deep Vail Hotel Limerick Me. 58." Limerick,Maine C: 1910-15 #58 Deep Vail Hotel The Deep Vale Hotel in Limerick in York County in about 1915. The building is on the shores of Sokokis Lake across the street from the Limerick Mills. By the time this image was taken the house had served as a tavern patronized by the mill workers and other townspeople for several decades. The two barns represent a remnant of what was once an even larger complex of barns. "Deepvale, the Sokokis Inn, known by many names such as The Admiral Ben Bow, Lakeside Grill, Quackers and The Limerick Doughboy....I'm not certain of its build date, I do know that it served as a tavern and place of rest for travelers, particularly those visiting the Limerick Yarn Mills during its heyday....Note that the barn on the right is missing siding and shows evidence of another building being attached to the broadside. I do not know when these barns were taken down, and replaced by a "hip"roofed three car garage....This building is said to be haunted by a man and his lover, both killed inside by his jealous wife. Supposedly, one was shoved down the main stairway and suffered a broken neck." - Thomas LePage In the scene, a young boy in knickers and a newsboy cap passes on foot in front of the barns on the dirt street.
