"Main St. Damariscotta, Me. 4." Houses, Store, photographers vehicle. Eastern Ilustrating vehicle, car Main St. Damariscotta 4. c.1920s On Damariscotta's main street, automobiles and horses share parking spaces along the concrete sidewalks, that replaced wooden ones like the one on the front left. On the right, at the dirt street's edge, is a horse-watering bowl in front of the Lincoln Hall, with the photographer's vehicle visible on the side street. It had three stores and a large hall on the second floor. The Maine Coast Book Store now owns the building, and movies and plays are still shown in the hall. The next brick block is called the Day Block. These buildings were built of Damariscotta River brick with money made in the local shipbuilding business. The buildings on the left side of Main Street house the Alvan Hussey & Son Dry and Fancy Goods store; W. W. Keene & Son Hardware and Glenwood stoves shop; and a barber shop. These brick buildings were constructed of local brick shortly after the great fire of 1845, which burned 70 percent of all the buildings on Main Street. Calvin and Marjorie Dodge
