[included in the exhibit "Washington County Through Eastern's Eye"] LB2007.1.114450 Grammar and Primary School Building, Beals, Me. 37. This building was the Beals Island High School, and it also housed grades 1 through 8 for the children on the main island. It was built in 1925 and funded by Charles Henry Beal of Beals, Maine. Beals Island had separated from Jonesport on June 11, 1925. In later years there was a small gym added to the school, and in1964 a new gym was added to the west side of the building. The Beals high school students went to the new re-named Jonesport-Beals High School in Jonesport, Maine in 1968. In the summer of 1982 it was sold to "Bo" Beal and torn down for the materials. The location is now used for the new Beals Town Office and a new building for Beals Historical Society. Caption written by Donald C. Woodward, President of Jonesport Historical Society
