[included in the exhibit "Hancock County Through Eastern's Eye"] LB2007.1.114087 Uncaptioned This scene is of the "business district" of the village of West Gouldsboro as one approached up Jones Cove by boat. From left to right, the buildings are George Wood's home, Henry Wood's home, Wayside Inn (Sam Wood, proprietor), the F. P. Noyes house and barn, and F. P. Noyes store. On the shore is a small bathhouse for Wayside Inn guests to use, then Henry Wood's boathouse, F. P. Noyes' saw mill, the grist mill, the grain store and Shaw's smoke house. The sawmill burned and was rebuilt and then eventually sold to Fletcher T. Wood, who moved it to his property at the Chicken Mill pond in West Bay (Gouldsboro). The Wayside Inn burned in the early 1930s and was replaced by the residence of Chandler L. Noyes. The F. P. Noyes home is now run as the Sunset House bed and breakfast. All the buildings on the brook from Jones Pond to Jones Cove are gone, but the F. P. Noyes store is today the Maine Kiln Works. Credit: George Daly and Mary Lou Hodge
