Sail Inn at Waldo-Hancock Bridge, Prospect, Maine D552g

A view of the Sail Inn diner which sat on the Prospect side of the at Waldo - Hancock Bridge. A sign on it states: "Sail Inn Restaurant Grill, Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer". After WWII, an increasing number of tourists wanted a view of the bridge which created a market for a restraunt. The Sail Inn opened in 1948, converting an old school house. It was owned and operated by the Dyer Family. It was a popular spot for tourists and locals alike but was forced to close when the state took the property by eminent domain in 2003 for the construction of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge.
