"Main St. Winterport Me. 607" Main Street, Winterport, Maine ca. 1915 This photograph wais taken in the middle of the village, on the East Side of Main Street. In the left foreground there are two stores in one building- D. K. Spencer and Edwin S. Hopkins. This building was later owned by Joshua Treat, when he resided in Winterport. There is a private dwelling next to this building. To the right of this home is another store which belonged to Charles Hill, which housed a general store and a telegraph business. This store was later owned by the Dunham family and used as a hardware store. To the right of this building is the Methodist Church, which has been decommissioned and was later owned by Trent Souder and used as a music store. Kaler Street runs between the church and a dwelling which was the home of James Otis Kaler. He was a well-known writer of boys' books under the name of James Otis.
