Mosman Park, Searsport, Maine 3 Cook Photo
Pictured is a bandstand (no longer extant) in Mosman Park. A man sits on a bench encircling the trunk of a Tamarack tree. The bay is off to the right. The park is named for the town's first doctor, Nahum Mosman. Mosman arrived in Searsport in 1804 from Sudbury MA and in 1809 purchased a large piece of land between Main Street and the shoreline, part of which he later made available to the public for recreation. In 1922 a descendant, Claribel Mosman, sold 4 acres called the "Mosman Grove" which was later acquired by the Mosman Park Association as a memorial park dedicated to the soldiers of the First World War. The result was the provision of public access and a recreationa are within a block of downtown Searsport.
