Searsport, Maine 14
Pictured is a view looking west on Main Street from the center of town, with the residential district beyond the Mill Stream in the background. The broad street is dirt. The presence of telephone poles, here confined to the center of town, suggests a post-1900 date. Wood frame commercial buildings and the Searsport House, rebuilt after its fire of 1892, front the south side of the street. Two women stroll toward the photographer on a sidewalk on the rnorth side of the street, which is fronted by tall trees and residences. Among these is a handsome brick house, probably built ca. 1820.
