Searsport, Maine 320
This sweeping view of the bay and Searsport's outer harbor is taken from Route 1 as it approaches town from the west. Sears Island and the coast beyond is visible, including the Penobscot Coal and Wharf Company in the far distance, and the American Agricultural and Chemical Company dock closer in. The Steamboat Wharf is partially visible at the far right. One can also see the footbridge along the near shoreline where the Mill Stream meets the bay. In the image the center of Searsport is obscured by the house. There is no trace of the shipyards which had flourished along the waterfront not long before this picture was taken. The picturesque house, newly built and landscaped when the picture was taken, has a cross-gable roof providing ample opportunity for arced vergeboards in the gables, and a wrap-around porch and windows for enjoying the views in all directions. Although woods have grown up around it, the house is still visible from Route 1. [See also LB2007.1.111129 and LB2007.1.111131]
