Searsport, Maine 206
This photo shows a handsome early 19th century house in the Pendleton Hill area of Searsport. The town is visible in the distance. It is summertime, and elm trees stand near the road, framing the house and dooryard created by the attached backhouse and barn. The house faces not the road, but the yard. The size of the house and its two chimneys, indicating a center hall floor plan and roomy attic, must have been built by a person- likely a farmer given the inland location- of some wealth for the time and place.
