In this image three men stand on the front porch of a variety store that is out of town. The building is a rudimentary two-story clapboard block, with large commercial windows flanking the entrance, and two smaller windows above. An outside stairway ascends up the left side of the building. A hand-scrawled sign reads: "United States Shipping Commission Office Up Stairs". The elder of the three men stands apart, looking official, while the other two stand together with decidedly cocky expressions.
