Greenfinch Cabins, Searsport, Maine

This image shows the small office building of the Greenfinch Cabins, a tourist lodging on Route 1 in Searsport. According to a 1930s business card, which advertised "Electric Heat" and Hot Water", the Greenfinch Cabins were owned by W.T. Finch and E.B. Greenlaw. A map on the back of the card locates the cabins halfway (at about the 9 mile point) between Belfast and the Waldo Hancock Bridge. Overnights or longer stays at "housekeeping cabins" along Route and other scenic highways became an affordable lodging option for families with the increase in automobile vacations. The property included an older farmhouse, visible at the right, called "Primrose Farms." [see also LB2007.1.111113, ...116, ...117]
