Mill Pond, Searsport, Me
This is a view of the Mill Pond in Searsport looking north from Main Street (Route 1). Houses of the neighborhood to the east, and the Union School House are partially visible on the wooded shoreline. Before the incorporation of Searsport in 1845, and the damming of the waterway forming the Mill Pond, the stream was known as "Half-way Creek" because it marked the division between what was then East Belfast and West Prospect. Later it became known as the Mill Stream and the MIll Pond, for the saw mill which was built on the south side of the dam and road.
