"Foot of Square, Belfast, Me" Belfast, Maine View of the intersection of Church & High Streets looking North from Northport Avenue. Located at what is known locally as the "Foot of the Square". Between High Street (on the right) and Church Street (on the left) is the James Patterson White house. Designed by Calvin Ryder and built in 1840 it is one of the state's finest examples of high Greek Revival architecture. White, a native of Belfast and a successful businessman, was born in 1800 and died in 1879. He served as Belfast's Mayor from 1861 to 1863 and a state senator from 1862 to 1863.
