This birdseye view of the double-arched stone bridge over the Pennamaquon River, is from "Uncle Tom's Lookout," an observatory situated on the summit of the "Cliffs." Located near the village hotels (the Gardner House and the Pennamaquon House), it afforded unsurpassed views of the surrounding country and was a favorite spot for artists, poets, tourists and others to study the sublime in nature. The lookout was erected by Dr. Thomas W. Pomeroy on the east bank of the Pennamaquon River, and was the site from which many post card photos were taken of the town. Caption written by Gail Menzel
