It is the porches of the house that give the structure its Greek Revival air of authority and formality. The side porch is a double-wide classical porch with paired fluted Doric columns supporting a substantial architrave and cornice. Its understated grandeur and placement facing the large lawn suggests the long side of the residence is the front of the house. The entry porch on the street side of the house is similar but a single-width element with single Doric columns. Simple rocking chairs on the larger porch evoke an atmosphere of summertime serenity.
