Grays Inn and Club House, So. Brooksville, ME 17X

Grays Inn and Club House at So. Brooksville. two story porch, several summer houses on lawns. Melvin Dayton Chatto built Gray's Inn and The Bay View (another hotel near this inn) and held a controlling interest for many years. Chatto was a prominent Brooksville citizen who owned quarries, served as a state Senator, fighting hard for a new state prison and advocating for women's suffrage, and was a prominent member of fraternal and social organizations. Gray's Inn was a summer destination in Buck's Harbor in the early 1900s. Guests arrived by steamer, until service was discontinued in the 1920s. The inn was torn down in the 1940s.
