Sunbathers, swimmers, picnickers, and beachgoers relax and play along a narrow, sandy beach on what is probably South Pond in Warren, Maine. Sedans and station wagons are parked above the beach and near vacation cottages and tents at the shore. Two canoes lie upside down at the top of the beach and in the shade of birch trees below a cottage; a man in swim trunks crouches in front of one canoe. A number of (probably) wooden skiffs are pulled up along the beach in the right half of the frame. A small motorboat with a ship-style steering wheel is tied up at a long pier extending into the pond at the extreme right of the frame.
