"H.E. Robertsons Store N. Sullivan Me."

"H.E. Robertsons Store N. Sullivan Me." Seven men of mixed ages and varied dress stand posed, somewhat uncomfortably, before a glass-fronted, two-storey building. The store--presumably a general store--is clearly situated in a rural neighborhood. A wooden sidewalk runs by the front of this and the neighboring buildings.

Harvey Robertson's Store was one of several "company stores" in Sullivan connected with companies operating granite quarries in town during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Mr. Robertson was in many ways "the last of a breed," continuing to quarry granite and to operate his store in North Sullivan until his death in the early 1960s.
