Schooner ERNESTINA

The EFFIE M. MORRISSEY sailed under two names. Originally named in 1894 when launched at the James and Tarr Yard in Essex, Ma as a Fredonia type fishing vessel. A wood hull 152 feet overall with bowsprit and weighing 120 tons. After a fire in Flushing ,New York the ship was purchased in 1948 by Capt Mendes of Cape Verde who re-named her ERNESTINA for his daughter. In 1982 ERNESTINA was returned to New Bedford as a gift from the people of Cape Verde.
