The Eugene McLain boatshed in Bremen, Long Island, was photographed in 1910. The building was extended, so he could build the schooner MARTHA E, which was 10 feet longer than his previous projects. MARTHA E was the last vessel he built before drowning off this boat in January 1911. She was the only schooner ever built on Bremen, Long Island. She was named for his wife, Martha E. Carter McLain, as was his earlier sloop.
