Pearl Vanorse of Rockland, ME had been packing sardines for 8 years as of June 15, 1962, when this picture was taken. She was the mother of seven children, ages 4 to 24, and a grandmother of three. She earned $153.24 in one week in 63 hours at the Green Island fish plant in Rockland. She packed 4 cases an hour with 100 cans to a case.
