Washburn and Doughty
The Washburn and Doughty shipyard at East Boothbay, Maine, was pictured in 1980. Bruce Washburn (l) and Bruce Doughty (r) started the business in 1977 with Carl Pianka, initially building fishing boats. Their first was a 69 ft. dragger, delivered in 1979 for a New Bedford operator. Specializing in steel and alumimum hulls, they diversified into passenger vessels, barges, ferries, and research vessels. They became noted for tugboats. As of 2023 the company name was Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc.
