Washburn and Doughty
Bruce Washburn (r) and Bruce Doughty were at work in the shipyard office of Washburn & Doughty at East Boothbay, Maine, in February 1980. Doughty was the president and general manager and Washburn, a naval architect, was in charge of designs. They started the business in 1977 with Carl Pianka, initially building fishing boats. Their first was a 69 ft. dragger, delivered in 1979 for a New Bedford operator. Specializing in steel and alumimum hulls, they diversified into passenger vessels, barges, ferries, and research vessels. They became noted for tugboats. As of 2023 the company name was Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc.
