SIMON BOLIVAR

The 270 ft.Tall Ship SIMON BOLIVAR visited Bath, Maine, in late August 1981 from Venezuela. The occasion was the city's bicentennial celebration. She was a newly built steel training vessel with a crew of 194. The Maine Maritime Museum co-sponsored the visit. This crowd gathered on Popham Beach to watch the ship sail out of the Kennebec River into Penobscot Bay on its way to New York City.
