Rockport Apprentice Shop

LIBERTE was launched in icy Rockport Harbor, Maine, on January 25, 1986. Oarsmen from the Hull, Mass., Livesaving Museum were among the first to row the new 38 ft. French gig. It was built by students in the Rockport Apprenticeshop. The non-profit wooden boat school operated in Rockport, Maine, from 1982 to 1992. It was founded in Bath, Maine, in 1972. From 1992-1995 it was in Nobleboro and in 1995 moved to Rockland, Maine, where it continues in its 50th year in 2022.
