Harold Benner, dory builder
Harold Benner, born April 8, 1900, built Banks-type dories in his one man shop until he was past 75 years old. In 1975 he was one of the last four boatbuilders who had worked with Wilbur Morse,a legendary builder of Friendship sloops. His dories were 12 feet long on the bottom with a 34 inch beam. Banks dories were used for seining and had a scull hole in the stern. With lapstrake construction, stern and frames were oak, planks pine.
