Schooner LILLIAN

From collection Elmer Montgomery Collection

Schooner LILLIAN

LILLIAN tied up at McAllen Wharf. Bow view. Schooner LILLIAN built in Boothbay in 1876; MVUS registered in 1942 to Donald P. Hurd of Boston for passenger carrying. Apparently the auxiliary engine was removed, and the vessel reclassified as sail. Thorndike & Hix lobster company sign next to McLoon’s on wharf building. There may have been a lag between when the switch got made and MVUS note. Put into the passenger carrying trade in 1940 by Captain Dayton Newton and his partner Donald Hurd.
