Schooner BOWDOIN
Schooner BOWDOIN alongside a wharf. Bow view. Arctic schooner BOWDOIN built in 1921; sold to the US Navy in 1941. From Camden, on June 25, 1938, Donald MacMillan's schooner BOWDOIN headed to the arctic where she'd been voyaging annually since she was launched in 1921. This would be her last trip before MacMillan sold her to the Navy and the vessel entered wartime service mapping the Greenland coast. Today, Bowdoin sails from The Maine Maritime Academy as Maine's official tall ship. [included in the "Elmer Montgomery" exhibit]
