Schooners CLINTON and LOIS M. CANDAGE

CLINTON, a 23 ton schooner built in Milbridge in 1886. registered in Rockland 1920. May have moved into passenger trade. Stern view of the schooner, looking up the harbor towards the park, and falls. LOIS M. CANDAGE registered to Rockland, owned in 1939 by Leman L. Alley of Eastport. The CANDAGE was rebuilt in 1912 in Blue Hill, from the 1884 LIZZIE AND ANNIE. Both of these vessels were engined and have been laid up for winter. By 1940, Frank Swift had added her to his windjammer fleet. "CLINTON came into Swift's fleet in June 1939 and was a workhorse there for about 15 years. CANDAGE was bought in August 1940, and must have finished the season with the wheelhouse still in place. This must be winter of 1940 - 41." -Contributed by Roderick Swift 2017 [included in the "Elmer Montgomery" exhibit]
