[included in the exhibit "Working Waterfronts"] Sunday at Snow's Shipyard, Rockland, Maine--Spring 1936 LB2008.15.188 MARY JANE ( closest to the water) was the first in a string of fishing vessels to be built at Snows in 1936. Her keel was laid in January; she was planked by mid May and launched June 20. Closest to Elmer Montgomery was the seiner UNCLE GUY, which was launched August 17. A sister, the seiner MARY GRACE, was launched in October, and a fourth dragger, JULIA ELEANOR, was started a few days later. All were Albert Condon (the yard's designer and master builder) designs; all were built for Massachusetts fishermen. At this building pace Sunday would be the only day that the yard would have been quiet. A couple of men inspecting MARY JANE and the photographer had the yard to themselves. M.
