U.S. Navy 'Steam Sloop' - a bark-3 with steam engines and propeller - possibly at Rockland, Maine. Notes: Photo is adhered to backer board. Coffin tentatively identifies as U.S.S. MOHICAN. This seems unlikely, probably a similar vessel. Ship's history in Wikipedia entry (6/2014) citing Dictionary of American Fighting Vessels shows U.S.S. MOHICAN built in California and always stationed in the Pacific.
