View of Teel Island, off Port Clyde, Maine at mouth of St. George River. Buildings, two cows, man and a flagpole.1905 Adam Teel of Marblehead, MA first settled on the St. George Island just before the Revolutionary War. He and his wife Mary started a family settlement that lasted over 140 years. While farming was the principle occupation of the family, later descendants also were fisherman. The population grew to a point where a school was necessary and one operated there from 1841-1858 and then from 1879-1903. This photo was taken in 1905 but we don't know which member of the Teel clan it is that is pictured. Today the farm house still stands as does the fish house and evidence of the stone walls can be found around the island.
