Group of people at Matincus Island, Maine about to embark in two dorys for a clam bake at Wheaton's Island. Harbor is full of fishing sloops; Wheaton's Island visable in background. To the Clambake A group embarks in a couple of lapstrake peapods, aka "double enders", from Matinicus in about 1905 for a clambake on nearby Wheaton Island. The well-dressed ladies are going to have to be careful not to get their skirts wet. The two open powerboats moored among the sloop fleet foretell the future of lobstering. Fisherman would often supplement their income by taking tourists to local islands for picnics and clambakes.
