Eight fishing sloops ranged across a slip, with schooner-2 and another sloop in foreground. Hailing port on two of the transoms is Bass Harbor. In background is a fish factory on wharf, with fish drying racks on the roof. From William Bunting: 'Doug Lee tells me that the wharf scene is Tilson's Wharf at Rockland, with whole string of Friendship-type sloops. The transoms of the lighter-painted ones appear to show exhaust pipes. And the all seem to be rigged with a small derrick, if you will. That all suggests to me that they are engaged in scalloping in the bay, early 1900s, in the winter. I suspect that the nice little schooner may be one of McCloon's lobster smacks. The vessel inboard of her, which we only see the bow of, is obviously a power vessel, and she appears to have a scallop dredge on board.' note: 2 copies
