Bark/ Auxiliary Steamship ROOSEVELT just after launch at Verona Island, Maine. Vessel is moored to Bucksport wharf; Verona Island building sheds of McKay & Dix yard at center across river. Roosevelt was towed to Portland the next morning for installation of superstructure and machinery. ROOSEVELT was heavily built for work in the ice for Admiral Peary's Polar Explorations, was the vessel from which Peary 'discovered' the North Pole. Ship named for Theodore Roosevelt.
