Roosevelt was towed to Portland the next morning for installation of superstructure and machinery. ROOSEVELT was heavily built for work in the ice for Admiral Peary's Polar Explorations, was the vessel from which Peary 'discovered' the North Pole. Ship named for Theodore Roosevelt.
