Railroad Station, Hunters and deer
View of two hunters with their kill (one moose and one deer, a doe) on a railroad depot platform. Note the sign on the depot for the Northern Telegraph Co. The company was formed as the Moosehead Lake Telegraph Co. in 1879 and re-named in 1895 It operated 656 miles of pole line along the rail line of the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad Co. It transmitted public commercial telegraph business in addition to furnish railroad telegraph facilities. The Bangor & Aroostook had rail lines which served numerous communities including Searsport, Bangor, Greenville, Millinocket, Presque Isle, Fort Kent and St. Francis as well as the communities in between making it likely that this photo was taken in one of the towns along the line.
