Sibley House

Sibley House, Sleeper Belfast has many beautiful residences and among them is the beautiful residence of Edward Sibley, ?18 High Street, which is admired by every stranger who comes here, as well as the all the residents of this city. The house was built by Hon. Joseph Williamson in 1842 and remained in the Williamson family till 1873 when it was sold to Timothy Thorndike who died within a year after he purchased it. Mr. Thorndike was the father of Mr. Sibley's wife. the house sets back about 80 feet and is about 10 feet above the level of the street. The dimensions of the buildings are as follows: The Main House is about 50 feet long and 35 feet wide. The Ell is about 50 feet long and 18 feet wide. The Barn is about 30 feet long and 25 feet wide. The main house has four large rooms below and four large rooms above; also large front entries below and above. The ell has a large kitchen , wash room and ample closet and shelf capacity. In the kitchen are a large cook stove for coal; also a gas stove , a 40 gallon hot water tank, which is connected to both stoves. there are four nice rooms in the ell upstairs, finished in hardwood which are used for sleeping rooms. Upstairs in the main house is a very nice bathroom with all modern plumbing, also a bath tub in one of the upstairs rooms in the ell and all are supplied with hot and cold water. The buildings have always been kept in thorough repair, and were painted outside in the spring of 1913 and the entire house was painted on the inside in 1910. The barn is about 30 feet long and 25 feet wide, and is ceiled and painted below, and has a cement floor 18 feet long and 9 feet wide so it can be used as a garage if required. The house is built in the Colonial Style with four large columns in front which adds very much to the beauty of the premises. Mr. Sibley lost his wife two years ago and both of his children live in the west and have homes of their own; and he wishes to be with them a portion of each year and for that reason he offers his beautiful residence for sale at a reasonable price and favorable terms, or he will rent it furnished as a summer residence. Belfast has a number of nice summer residences and the probability is that it will increase in popularity as a summer resort. A short distance from the Sibley house is the beautiful residence and grounds of Senator Taliaferro of Jacksonville, Florida and on Northport Avenue, about one mile below the city are the beautiful summer homes of Mrs. C. P. Crosby of Boston, and Mrs. McLean of Washington, D. C. and at Northport, at about four miles from the city, is the beautiful summer home of Ira M. Cobe, of Chicago, which is not excelled by any residence in this state. I should be pleased to furnish anyone with further detailed information or show them over the house if they wish. EDWARD SIBLEY, Belfast, Me.
