P.M. BONNEY

Schooner P.M. BONNEY This photo of the P.M. BONNEY tied up alongside a wharf appears to have been taken in Belfast. The P.M. BONNEY is a 2-masted schooner of 19 gross tons, 51.7 feet in length, 18 feet in breadth and a depth of 4.8 feet. She has a billet head bow and a square stern. She was built in Middletown, Connecticut in 1856 and is homeported in Belfast, Maine. The owner in 1859 was N. Coleman of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Orrin J. Dickey of Belfast and others were the owners from 1876 to 1903. She was homeported in Falmouth in 1859; Harwich, Massachusetts in 1869 and Belfast from 1876 to 1903. She ran as packet schooner from Belfast to Vinalhaven for over 32 years. On January 17, 1878, a sudden violent gale and storm did considerable damage. The schooner P. M. Bonney filled and sank and other vessels were injured. Several buildings were unroofed, and a stock-house belonging to the paper mills on the East Side of the river blew down. She was raised after sinking in 1878 and continued operating until 1903. She was dropped from the list of merchant vessels in 1904.
