Belfast Water Works Side View
After several devastating fires in Downtown Belfast and several attempts for an adequate city water supply, it was clear to the voters of Belfast they needed a solution that would last a long time. In 1887 the Belfast Water Company was formed and a group of civil engineers from Boston, Parks & Wheeler, was hired to construct a 175 foot dam at the mouth of Little River. This photo shows the brick pump house situated on the north side of the dam.
