Puddle Dock
View of Puddle Dock from Bridge Street, Belfast, Maine In this view one can see numerous waterfront business operations. Just across the "puddle" (tidal pool) several boxcars can be seen in the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad yard. Just behind the last boxcar (left end) is the scale shed. To the right is the freight shed. To the right of the boxcars the Armstrong turntable can be seen. It was used to rotate and engine to gain access to the engine shed or the active tracks. In this view, you can see a locomotive atop the turntable. to the right two men can be seen. They are pushing on a bar which is attached to the turntable to rotate it. Just behind the men is the passenger depot. In the background is the Swan & Sibley building. It is the one that has two chimneys. To its right, peaking up behind the building with the shed roof, is the gambrel roof atop the Dana's Sarsaparilla building. The large building with the tower, to the right, is the old shoe factory on Main Street (too many owners to name). As Belfast was an active waterfront there are numerous wharves and attendant warehouses adjacent. Two 2-masted schooners can be seen tied up to one or two of these wharves (probably either the Railroad Wharf or Lewis Wharf).
